CTTT Home Building Division Information Session for Newcastle

August 2007

NSW Fair Trading Minister, Linda Burney, today announced that the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal (CTTT) would hold a Home Building Division Information Session in Newcastle on Monday 13 August 2007.

Tradespeople, community workers, members of the general public and business people are invited to the information session to be held at Newcastle City Hall, 290 King Street, Newcastle on 13 August 2007 from 11.00am to 1.00pm.

Ms Burney said that those who had had work completed after the recent flooding in Newcastle, and were unsatisfied with the outcome, could attend the session to learn more about the CTTT and to see how it could assist them with their dispute.

“When people find themselves in a dispute it is important to know the dispute resolution services provided by the Tribunal can be easily accessed,” Ms Burney said.

“The CTTT is committed to improving access to fair, timely and affordable hearings for the people of New South Wales and provides a specialised dispute resolution service for consumer, trader and tenancy matters.

“This Home Building Division Information Session is designed to improve the awareness of the CTTT’s role and activities in the Hunter and Central Coast region.

“In the past year, the CTTT received over 64,000 applications of which 3,709 were for home building which is a five percent increase in applications on 2005-2006.”

Topics to be covered in the session will include:
  • an overview of CTTT proceedings
  • how to make an application to the CTTT
  • what orders the CTTT can make
  • how hearings are organised and conducted
  • case study presentation.
