Updating kitchen benchtops cheaply

Print-friendly Version

Question

We are currently renovating an old kitchen with orange benchtops. Is there any way we can fix up the benchtops without spending a major amount. Can they be relaminated? Thanks.

Answer

Yes, benchtops can be re-laminated, however only if your current ones are square edged. In the long run you don't necessarily save much by re-laminating the existing benchtops as the labour component of the work is comparable; that is, the oven and sink will still have to be lifted before re-laminating.

You will find that new laminated kitchen benchtops are relatively inexpensive at $190 per lineal metre.
